Texas Frightmare Weekend - Day 3

"I'm not even supposed to be here today!"

Sorry for the non-horror reference, but it's true! I was supposed to fly home very early Sunday morning. It was a dumb plan that had no chance of actually happening. So I moved my flight to 4pm. Which gave me time to go back to TFW one last time to tie up a few loose ends. Mostly, I wanted to get my "Jigsaw" mini poster that I forgot on Saturday signed.

So once again, I got up insanely early, showered (you're welcome), and headed over to start the VIP line. Only this time, it was already started. My friend (ex-friend now obviously) Terry had beaten me there. So I was second. And I didn't like it one bit!

All kidding aside, I'm glad I had somebody to talk to from the moment I arrived. I get to these things so early sometimes that it will be a good hour before anyone else shows up. And that can be booooooring! One of my line buddies took a group photo of a bunch of us. I'm so glad they did, as I always forget to take photos with people.

My main objective today was Tobin Bell. But I had forgotten to bring most of my steelbooks the day before, so I needed a few directors. I also needed Mira Sorvino on my Mimic mini poster. I was hoping to be done by noon at the latest. Whether or not that happened was going to depend on Tobin Bell arriving on time. That wasn't the case on Saturday, so I wasn't counting on it.

Much to my surprise, Tobin arrived at his table just a few minutes after they let VIPs in. I was first in line, and had to scramble a bit because I wasn't expecting him so early. I got my "Jigsaw" mini signed, and he was nice enough to add the "game over!" quote. After he wrote it, he told me he wasn't doing quotes, and not to show anybody that he did one for me. I can trust you all to keep my secret, right? Right!?!?!?

After Tobin, I had Tommy Lee Wallace sign my "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" steelbook. I usually ask for a "Director" inscription, but I know Tommy doesn't like to do that. So I told him he'd be the only one signing it, and he could write anything he wanted on it. I like what he wrote.

Next I got in line for Tom Savini. There was a mother/daughter talking to him, and nobody else in line. So I figured it'd be quick. Boy was I wrong! The daughter was an aspiring makeup effects artist, and was having a really nice, lengthy conversation with Mr. Savini. I didn't want to interrupt, so I waited patiently.

I started eyeing McKenna Grace's line across the way. I didn't "need" to meet McKenna Grace again. But every time I see her I kind of assume it'll be the last con she does, so I decided to jump in her line as soon as I got my Tom Savini autograph. I didn't time it, but at least 10-15 minutes went by, and I was still waiting. It wouldn't be long before GA was let in, and I really wanted to be in McKenna's line before that happened. I had already paid Savini's handler, so I asked if she'd be okay if I left and came back later, and if she'd remember that I'd already paid. Rather than doing that, she interrupted the conversation and asked if I could get my item signed. I appreciated her doing that, but at the same time didn't want to interrupt what was clearly a very meaningful conversion for the young woman. So I asked them not to leave, got my item signed, and was on my way. After about a 30 second interruption, they resumed their conversation.

I got in McKenna's line. She was a bit late arriving. I probably waited about 20ish minutes before she arrived. She had lots of security with her. Rumor has it she had some kind of stalker or something. For the first time in my entire life, I grabbed an 8x10 off the table and got it signed. I even had her personalize it. It was a day of firsts! She was her usual sweet self.

My buddy Deej asked me to relay a message to Matthew Lillard. I thought about going up to Nay and asking if I could talk to Matt real quick. But I still had a line skip left that I didn't need, so I decided to just use that. When I got to Nay I handed her the line skip and told her I just needed to relay a message from Deej. She laughed and said I didn't need to use a line skip for that. I got up to Matt. I told him he'd already signed all of my stuff on Friday, and that I just wanted to pass on Deej's message. So I did. Matt's response was to give me a bear hug, and tell me to pass that back to Deej. Matt's such a good guy lol. I ran over to Joe Dante's table next and got my "The Howling" steelbook signed.

All that left was Mira Sorvino. She wasn't at her table yet. There was one other person waiting for her when I got there. He said he was told her photo ops were pretty soon, and they didn't know if she'd be coming to her table before that. Luckily, she did stop at her table first. It was my second time meeting her, so I didn't grab a photo with her this time. But I absolutely love how she signed my poster.

And that's it for TFW! I made it back to my hotel with plenty of time to pack and head to the airport.

I had a wonderful convention. My only teeny tiny complaint is about the VIP line skip tabs on the wristband. They come off way too easily while you're wearing it. I lost one of my tabs. Luckily, I ended up not needing it. Other than that, it was pretty much a perfect convention. They made some notable operations improvements from the previous year, and they were much appreciated.

I've made so many con friends the last two years at TFW. Probably more than any other convention, honestly. It's taken me like 5-6 times at my Florida cons to make as many friends as I have at TFW. I love hanging out with these people, and they are the biggest reason I'll be trying to get to TFW every year if possible. Now it's time for the stats! Day 3 Stats: CELEBS MET: 7
